Tracing my Journey as a Teacher

In my journey as a teacher, I've have had the pleasure of teaching many grade levels at a variety of districts and sites. While it was frustrating as I took this journey (which began as I earned my MS Credential in 2004), It made me a much better and more empathetic teacher. I don't think that I'm done with this journey. This page serves to document some of the dust I've gathered and left behind on my journey as a professional educator.

Preschool Experience

I taught Early Childhood Education classes at both Malcolm Elementary and Wood Canyon Elementary in the Capistrano Unified School District. In the PreK class I taught at Wood Canyon, the class composition included 21 boys and 3 girls. We had a great year, as students prepared to succeed in school, socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively.

Middle School Experience

After adding a Single Subject - English Credential, I made the jump to teaching Middle School English, Computers and PE at Parks Junior High School in the Fullerton School District for one year on a 50% contract, in 2009-2010. Next, I journeyed south, back to SVUSD to teach Drama and Public Speaking at Serrano Intermediate on a 40% contract for the last two quarters of the 2010-2011 school year.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - CAPOUSD
In 2015-2016, I began my work in Staff Development at Capistrano Unified SD as an Instructional Coach, supporting four Middle Schools in the district.

Elementary Experience

My first Certificated teaching position was at Glen Yermo Elementary in 2008-2009, as a third-grade class-size reduction teacher for one year, teaching Math and English on a 49% contract. At the time, Glen Yermo was a Title I school in the Saddleback Valley United School District, supported by my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential

HIgh School Experience

I entered my first full-time teaching position as an English Teacher at Tesoro High School in Las Flores, California during the 2011-12 school year. In my four years at Tesoro, I taught all four grades, but spent most of my time teaching ninth and eleventh grade general English classes. One of the favorite books Juniors read was The Great Gatsby. A culminating activity was the Gatsby Art Project, samples of which are posted below. In my last year, I taught English using 1:1 Chromebooks. It was a great year, and launched me into the my position as an Instructional Coach.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - PUBLIC
In the summer of 2015, I became a CUE Rock Star Faculty member at the Crescent City Rock Star Teacher Camp. Joining this innovative movement has profoundly changed me as a teacher!
